Essay on Nursing

Sample Essay on Nursing:
American Nurses Association defines nursing as protection and ability to prevent illness through treatment of the human response. The main aspect of my nursing philosophy and the value systems are as follows: time management, advocacy, knowledge, honesty, privacy of the patient, and respect. This is what drives me to choose nursing as a career. Nursing is seen as a very important career as one decides to care for peoples lives and share different beliefs and values. Knowledge is the main aspect in ensuring the success of this career. It is very important to apply knowledge in this career. To be a good nurse however, it is very vital to think holistically and be able to participate in the in the patients needs (Fitzpatrick, & Whall, 2009). One has also to be able to manage time. When a nurse is poor in managing his time, then the entire service will be affected in terms of quality.

My personal philosophy of nursing is in respect to the model of Jacksonville University school of Nursing. This model characterizes nursing as both an art and scientific discipline. Nursing is seen on the art perspective in the sense that, nurse are meant to understand the meaning and experience of holistic health sickness. It also brings out the perspective of moral and ethical care. I view nursing as a science in the sense that, nursing is active in the body application and theoretical knowledge of nursing (Watson, 2009). The main objective of nursing is to ensure that, I achieve knowledge, skills, and competency to be able to achieve quality life and health while embracing individuals’ culture.

My personal belief system has also been to ensuring patient care and compassion. The nurse needs to be overwhelming, and with a friendly personality. The care should extend from the patient to the entire family. This is because, the care does not just take care of the physical health of the patient, but also his emotions are taken care of. The other characteristics of nursing philosophy rely more on the ethical issues and other human rights. It is so much vital to relate the nursing philosophy to the current healthcare industry. In the current environment, there has been proved evident of healthcare workers shortage and the situation keeps on getting worse on a daily basis (Watson, 2010). Healthcare keeps on getting much more expensive and the insurance companies are equally growing to be more expensive. If all the characteristics can be incorporated, this issue can be reduced in that, healthcare will be so much affordable.

It is very important to take care of the society and the healthcare issues. It is important for the nurses to concentrate mainly on the wellbeing of the patients in order to reduce the death cases in the country. Nurses need to provide the best service as per their knowledge and ability to attain the best life and extend the life expectancy in the society. I always believe that, caring should be one of the foremost in nursing along with patient empowerment in their disease process (Watson, 2009). It is very important to care for the patient even in the moments of authentic. It is also very vital to take into consideration the patient culture in the healing processes. Nursing can be said to be the art of trust incorporation while caring for the patients and taking into consideration their problems. Nursing is said to be perfect if it is learned and practiced professionally. Leininger brings in the theory of transcultural that has proved to be so much effective in this industry. This theory ensures that there is a good relationship between the nurse and the patient. Incorporating various cultures and building the rapport between the patient and the nurses makes it a very important aspect that all nurses must ensure that they achieve.

Jean Watson developed the human caring theory back in the year 1979. She wanted to reflect her views on the science of caring (Simmon, 2005). I tend to concur with Watson’s model because, the model clearly demonstrates interrelationship that are present between the patients and the nurses. This makes it possible for the formation of caring aspect between one human being to another. In order for one to be successful in nursing industry, one must be in a position to see the patient as a person and extend the caring from the patient to the family. This builds a good rapport between the nurse and the patient and his family and thus making the healing process so much enjoyable (Boyle, 2008). The emotion that exists between the family and the patient always drive much more care given by the nurse to the patient. This also gives the nurse extra knowledge on how best to handle and care for the patient. If one puts for instance knowledge into practice and do not consider aspects like time management and patience to the patients, they the industry cannot be considered effective. All the factors must be placed into practice in order to achieve the objective and the long-term goal of the school of nursing of Jacksonville University thus making this field effective.

Finally, for one to be considered a professional in nursing there is a need for the individual to incorporate both the knowledge gained in class, his personal values, and idealism. An individual should be in a better position to put into action all the core characteristics like knowledge, caring, time management, honesty, respect, and privacy. Most patients need their information to be kept so private and they would prefer to go to a practitioner who has been seen to be having these characteristics. This is because, there are illnesses that may interfere with an individual’s social class, and most of the patient would want to keep this private. In this respect, I will strive to ensure that I maintain and I abide to my personal nursing philosophy all through my profession (Leininger, & McFarland, 2006). Nursing is a very respected career and it has always been seen to be very much rewarding and self fulfilling thus making to be part of the team that is without doubt leaving an ineligible mark in the livelihoods of many people. This career makes me socialize with different people from different culture, believes, and thus makes me to be a very much-diversified individual who can easily blend in any culture worldwide. This career has also improved my interpersonal skills and thus with time I believe I will become the most preferred nurse by all types of individuals.
