Alexander the Great essay

Free sample essay on Alexander the Great:
With all of his accomplishments came the knowledge and influence of the different people in Alexander’s life. Alexander III was the son of Philip II and the Epirote princess Olympias. He was twenty when he succeeded the throne of Macedonia. Alexander followed in Philip’s footsteps with spectacular success but he did not stand in his fathers shadow. His mother Olympias was a great help in this. She was an iron willed woman who did everything in her power to protect her son and advance his career. She was an incredibly determined mother. It was Olympias who put the idea in Alexander’s mind that he would become successful in his own right, not just because he was the son of Philip.

The relationship between Alexander and his mother was an important aspect in Alexander’s life. According to John Maxwell O’Brien’s ‘Alexander the Great “The Invisible Enemy”, “The is little doubt that she was one of the dominant influences in his early life.” Even after Alexander succeeded Philip’s throne, their relationship was always marked by affection and loyalty. When Alexander crossed the Hellespont to Asia in 334 BC, Olympias stayed in Europe and remained as his supporting backbone the whole way, even throughout all his victories and conquests. Alexander’s profound dedication to his mother never wavered. However, he was desperately requested by his viceroy in Macedonia to rid of her interfering ways. This is when Alexander is said to have remarked, “that Antipater did not understand that one tear shed by [my] mother would wipe out ten thousand letters such as this”. Alexander also expressed some thought on his mother’s deification. He told close friends “the greatest reward for my efforts and my labours will be if my mother Olympias be granted immortality on her departure from life”. Continue reading Alexander the Great essay

Sample essay on Internet Fridges

We thought that the current electrical goods we had were advanced, well think again because we are closer and closer to making what seemed impossible or merely a distant future, appear a reality.

Internet Fridges are probably the newest, most up to date technology we have today. The sound of an Internet fridge may seem ridiculous and pointless in having, however, there are so many technological advances to having this nifty, rather large component to your household. With so many little additions and gadgets to this refrigerator, I`m sure it will seem fairly impossible to even recognize every luxury device received with the Net Fridges. Although you may just think that this appliance is simply the Internet connected to a fridge you are vastly mistaken. Some may have more or different special features, depending on the company it is made from. It seems the standard Net Fridge tends to include a large touch-sensitive screen, a barcode scanner, digital television, message board, camera, built-in monitor (to detect expired foods), connection with other household appliances, e-mail and much more. From using these exceptional pieces of equipment and gadgets, you d be amazed at how you can use them for your great benefit. The barcode scanner enables the refrigerator to check barcodes to note when daily necessities are missing from the fridge or if the ingredients for that day`s dinner are available in supermarkets. The fridge will then be able to deliver a shopping list to the local supermarket allowing the supermarket to deliver your groceries to you, and without you having to do a thing. You can also have installed an online weekly shopping list. Rather than sticking messages on the fridge, you can use the handwriting message board on the fridge. You can also surf the net, play MP3’s and e-mail digital photos. The built in camera allows you to make family videos and can be used as a security system alerting the police if there should be a break in. One of THE best elements though of the Internet Fridge has to be the Longwork protocol. This protocol enables the fridge to have interaction with other household appliances. Example, Any of the lights in your home can be turned on or off from an icon on the display panel, while the air-conditioning, spa and alarm system can all be controlled without leaving the kitchen. Importance of Proper Conduct essay

Sample essay on Importance of Proper Conduct:
The importance of using polite and proper language is as important as the dinner hour: VERY important. Proper behavior and language within school, is essential for proper learning and growth as a person. It helps people learn respect, for future and present use, for school and for jobs, and for common decency. Without proper conduct and language, we would be lost in a world full of ignorance, disrespect, and stress. People wouldn’t know whom to look up to, they wouldn’t listen to others, and they wouldn’t know when to be quiet.

People who are older than you, deserve respect…it is a rule of life. They have had more years and in some case MANY more years of life experience than you, therefore, you should look up to them in a respectful manner, and not regard anything of what they say as being stupid, redundant, or insignificant; because they know far more than you about life. To respect is to hold someone in appreciative regard and esteem, and to do this, is not very hard. People who teach you, should deserve respect, for they are helping you get set for the rest of your life. People who nurture you, should deserve respect, because they have helped you become who you are today. The people who nurture, teach, and are older than you aren’t the only ones who deserve respect. Everyone, deserves respect. You can respect people by not hurting them, you can respect people by not ridiculing them, you can respect people by saying “please” and “thank you” and by using your common manners. Divorce Essay sample

Free sample essay on Divorce:
Divorce in my eyes is definitely one of the biggest happening things to every day life. To make things simple, divorce is basically the dissolution of marriage by law. Marriage is something that everyone will face during his or her upcoming lives, but divorce should not be a case due to a cause of dishonesty, or even a constant fighting mishap. In my opinion divorce should have never even came about in this society today. It should either be a done / done situation or a never happening issue.

To this question, and me there is no wrong or right answer. Just a given opinion on what you think. I both agree and disagree with the meaning of divorce. I concur with divorce because people always make mistakes within their lives, and he or she will at some point move on to an agreement of divorcing. I as well, oppose this issue, because those who are couples should know what marriage is, and not abuse the love they have between one another. They should respect what marriage is, and make sure it is what they want before jumping into something they wont want in the future. Continue reading Divorce Essay sample

Sample Essay on Animal Farm

Free sample essay on Animal Farm
The seven commandments in Animal Farm are as follows:

  • Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy
  • Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend
  • No animal shall wear clothes
  • No animal shall sleep in a bed
  • No animal shall drink alcohol
  • No animal shall kill any other animal
  • All animals are equal

If we first just take a moment to look at these commandments. It is obvious that the animals are determined to abolish humans, since they say that anything upon two legs is an enemy. But some animals go upon two legs, which brings us to the second commandment, everything with four legs, or has wings, is a friend. With these two commandments the animals have completely isolated themselves from humans. The next three commandments abolish the things that are, according to the animals, most affiliated with humans. The animals, in their struggle to separate themselves from the humans, simply do not do them. Regarding the next commandment, it is pretty obvious why it should be followed. It doesn’t need further explaining. The next commandment deals with democracy, and is also obvious in why it should be followed. Continue reading Sample Essay on Animal Farm

International Development Essay

The story begins with a quick description of the authors former surroundings, and the type of industries which, until the present day, had been prevalent in that area. The location is the old industrial area of Toronto which was formerly dominated by garment factories, yet today resembles a ghost – town with its boarded up, dormant buildings.

Worldwide globalization has led many such enterprises to be forgotten in the wake of modernization and increased technologies. Remnants of an earlier era can still be seen in the various statues and monuments erected around Spadina Ave., the main street of the city known for its booming garment industry, which include women hunched over sewing machines and figures perched atop lampposts. An eleven foot thimble was also erected which directly symbolizes the transformation from the garment to sweatshop workers struggle. Old factory buildings are being turned into expensive lofts and condos complete with 24 hour concierge, underground parking, and sky lit gymnasiums. Few landlords remain, who have made their fortunes off the garment industry, that haven’t already sold their buildings in the name of condominium development, and many are caught between the harsh realities of economic globalization and an earlier period of time. Sample Essay on Eating Disorders

Eating disorders have become very prevalent in the United States, as well as all over the world. People deal with dieting, exercise, and a slew of other options to try and lose weight, and sometimes it can spiral out of control. Eating disorders are viewed as illnesses that are associated with a change in eating behavior, harsh body image distortion, and a fixation with weight. There are three main types of eating disorders: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, and since all three of these often times overlap, they all have similar causes and treatment methods.

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that causes people to starve themselves to death through the process of dramatically decreasing caloric intake. This particular eating disorder usually occurs during early to middle adolescence and is a lot more common among women than in men. A common misconception is that anorexia is due to a person’s decrease in appetite, yet the victim’s appetite is normal at first, and only decreases due to prolonged periods of lack of food. Symptoms of anorexia nervosa include significant weight loss, the refusal to preserve a lowest standard body weight, the loss of menstruation, dry skin, a sickly complexion, and a severe fear of gaining weight. Sample Essay on Politics

Machiavelli has widely been called the “father of modern political thought”.

His thoughts upon deception, the nature of the state, the need for a leader to avoid hatred and his innovative method of political study were revolutionary at their time of writing and are still applicable to modern politics.

Whilst it is true that his thoughts and hypothesis about politics are widely relevant to modern politics it must be remembered that Machiavelli lived in an age vastly different to the modern societies thus it is possible to question Machiavelli’s thoughts in relation to certain issues, specifically here religion. Overarching Machiavelli’s thoughts are still relevant to modern politics.

The best texts to study in analyzing Machiavelli’s relevance to modern politics are The Prince, as the text was intended as a guide to a political leaders (princes) morals and how the state should be ruled, and The Discourses as it is involving Machiavelli’s “political method and is a study of previous political history”.
